The Kebbi State Government in collaboration with Medicaid Foundation and Johnson and Johnson has conducted a free screening for over 500 eligible men for prostate cancer in its effort to curtail the spread of the disease.
State’s Commissioner for Health, Jafar Mohammed, who spoke yesterday during the exercise, said three of those screened using Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) estimation were found positive.
According to him, of the number screened, 76 suspected cases were found to have high PSA value and were subjected to further evaluation using ultrasound and biopsy procedures, adding that other patients also screened would be closely monitored as their PSA values would be subjected to check every six months.
He said cancer patients in the state have been getting support through the tremendous effort of of the wife of the state governor, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu.
