Gombe gov’t to impound unregistered motorcycles, tricycles

The Gombe State Internal Revenue Service said it would confiscate commercial motorcycles and tricycles operating in the state without proper registration.

Executive Chairman of the agency, Abubakar Inuwa Tata disclosed in Gombe at a town hall meeting with operators of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Achaba and the Keke NAPEP riders.

He said the town hall meeting was organised to discuss issues of security threat to the state and also to ensure that all commercial tricycles and motorcycles are registered with the trade union and the right government institutions

Tata warned commercial tricycle operators and motorcyclists from registering their vehicles with vendors, where vehicle papers and number plates were issued to them at the point of purchase.

“It is completely wrong to register your vehicles with the vendors; this means what has been bought was not registered with Internal Revenue Service and when they get lost there is no way we can trace them.

The executive chairman also called on dealers of motorcycles and tricycles to register with the agency.

Tata also expressed dissatisfaction with how officials of the Achaba union are collecting dues on the road.

He reiterated that the law only empowered the revenue service to collect road maintenance levy and other revenue from road users.
