Kaduna LG pensioners cry out over 6 months arrears

Local government pensioners in Kaduna State have called on the state government to facilitate the prompt payment of the six months pension owed them.

The appeal was made by the state’s Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Comrade Alhassan Balarabe Musa, who said the local government pensioners were owed pension from March to August, 2026.

He said the affected pensioners were from eight local government areas: Kauru, Jema’a, Sanga, Kaura, Jaba, Kachia, Kagarko and Birnin Gwari.

Addressing the media in Kaduna on wednesday, Com Musa said, “We went to the pension bureau to lodge a complaint with regards to the non-payment of pension to some of our pensioners in the Southern part of the state, because after the verification exercise which started in March this year, they have not been able to access their pension.”

He further said, “90 per cent of pensioners are surviving on drugs, so if they are unable to access their pension it will worsen the situation for them. They cannot feed themselves and they cannot buy drugs.

“Another thing of concern is the fact that officials of the pension bureau collected pensioner’s original documents, including first appointment letter, last promotion and National Identity Card, for scanning during the verification and up till now the original documents are still with them.
