No fewer than 500 pregnant women in Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State have been given free delivery kits.
Flagging-off the distribution at Billiri General Hospital, in Billiri LGA, the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya, said the distribution was as a result of her concern over the hardship faced by expectant mothers to have basic requirements during childbirth.
She revealed that the distribution of the delivery kits would be replicated to pregnant women in all the 11 local government areas of the state under her pet project, the Jewel Care Foundation, in collaboration with Fidelity Bank.
Asma’u Yahaya emphasised on blockage of leakages to ensure that the kits are given out free of charge to those it was meant for, adding that “Government will not hesitate to bring to book anyone found diverting these essential items for personal gains, at the detriment of those they are intended for.”
The governor’s wife expresses the hope that the kits would go a long way in helping expectant mothers to ease their anxiety, before and during childbirth.
She, therefore, called on individuals and non-governmental organisations to contribute toward the provision of more delivery kits to help the less privileged access them.
The chairperson of Billiri LGA, Mrs Margaret Bitrus, appreciated the first lady for choosing Billiri as the flag-off LGA amongst the 11 LGAs in the state, pledging to redouble effort in ensuring free distribution of the kits to deserving mothers.
