The Council of Ethnic Youth Leaders of Nigeria has condemned the call for the resignation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, by the Arewa Youth Assembly.
The council, which comprises Ohanaeze, Oduduwa, Arewa and Middle Belt youth leaders, said the call was to discredit the CBN governor and President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic recovery plans.

The council said it was approached by some unnamed individuals with financial inducement to join a plot to launch a smear campaign against Emefiele so that the President will sack him.
Speaking on behalf of the council at a press briefing in Abuja Wednesday, the President of Middle Belt Youth Council, Meliga Godwin, described the plot as an act of economic sabotage and called on all the security agencies to immediately investigate it.
“We also agreed that the policies of the Central Bank, including the stopping of sales of Forex to Bureau De Change operators, should be given reasonable time to kick in without disruption,” he added.
