APC group wants Benue, Nasarawa parley for border security

A group known as Ihyarev APC leaders in Benue State has urged Governor Samuel Ortom, to liaise with his Nasarawa State counterpart, Abdulahi Sule, for improved security, around the border communities of both states.

The group in a statement on Tuesday signed by some of its leaders with a copy made available to our correspondent in Makurdi, said the joint efforts of the two governors would promote strong security ties and wade off incessant attackers on rural dwellers at border communities.

“In this connection, Governor Ortom should immediately commence discussions with the Nasarawa State Governor so as to build a formidable security wall around our people for their safety without further delay. This measure had proved effective during the reigns of Governors Akume and Suswam,” they said.

The APC Ihyarev leaders also stressed the need for the Benue Governor to implement the recommendations of General Atom Kpera committee for peace to reign in the state, noting that the committee had provided a road map that would engender peace in the state.

The statement added, “We acknowledge that there had been sporadic incidences of conflicts between the Fulani herders and our farming communities predating our generation and the present administration of Governor Ortom which were seasonal and immediately settled through dialogue and compensation.”
