Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State have tackled a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, over his comment that the biggest mistake made by Nigerians was to vote for the APC in 2015.

Atiku had at a rally to receive some APC chieftains in Yola to PDP penultimate Saturday, said supporting the APC to win the 2015 election was the biggest mistake Nigerians made. He called on voters from the APC and other political parties to join PDP to sack APC in 2023.

“We have made a big mistake before by floating a party called the APC. But from today, I am calling on you the Adamawa people to leave your parties and join the PDP, because it is the future and the masses’ party. APC is Nigeria’s biggest mistake”, Atiku who hails from Adamawa State said.

Also, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the state urged the electorate to mobilise support for Atiku outside the state being the candidate with the capacity to turn around Nigeria.

Reacting, the state Organising Secretary of APC, Ahmad Lawan, advised Atiku and his promoters to face the crisis rocking their party and the hurdles against Atiku’s 2023 ambition.

He expressed doubt about the sincerity of Governor Fintiri’s call for support for Atiku, alleging that the governor had recently indicated that he had to consult before deciding which presidential aspirant to support in 2023 and that he did not support Atiku in 2019 presidential primaries.

An APC chieftain, Dahiru Hammandikko, also dismissed Atiku’s claim, saying APC remained the most popular party in the state and that PDP benefited from the internal crisis in 2019 to win gubernatorial election.
