The Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Maj Gen Ibrahim Ali, on Sunday, inaugurated a 36- member Joint Peace Committee to find solutions to attacks and counter-attacks between mostly herders and farmers in Plateau State.
The event was held at the Operation’s Headquarters in Jos, the State Capital.
The Committee is formed in the wake of the recent upheavals that ravaged the state which has resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of properties.
The members of the committee were drawn from different ethnic communities of Bassa, Jos North and South LGAs who had the background knowledge of the conflict with the hope that their experiences would assist in finding a lasting solution to the incessant clashes among the warring parties and fast-tracking the restoration of peace in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration, Maj. Gen. Ali urged members of the committee to demonstrate impartiality, neutrality, and avoid sentiment and compromise in the process.
The Peace committee chairman, Prince Robert Rigwe Ashi, while thanking the commander for the confidence reposed in them, gave the assurance that the committee would discharge its duties diligently.
The committee has two weeks to submit its report.
