Osinbajo, Obasanjo, others pay tribute as Gov Abiodun’s father is buried

Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, was agog yesterday as dignitaries led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo attended the final burial rites of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s father, Dr Emmanuel Abiodun.

The late teacher was interred amid tributes at the cemetery at St. James Anglican Church in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state. The interment was preceded by the funeral and thanksgiving service at the same church.

Top personalities at the occasion included, Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; former President Olusegun Obasanjo; General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; and governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi) and Abdul-Rahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara).

Also in attendance were former governors of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Gbenga Daniel and Chief Olusegun Osoba, and Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The President, African Development Bank, Akinwunmi Adesina; Chairman, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote; former Governor of Edo State and the immediate past National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, Chairman of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (rtd), were also at the occasion.

Delivering his sermon at the service, the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos and Diocesan Bishop of Remo, Most Rev. Dr. Olusina Fape, called on politicians to use their positions to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.

He also expressed concern over the insecurity in the country and called for urgent action by the government.

“What will you be remembered for after leaving the office or position you hold on tightly to? If people are crying because you are a leader, God will judge you,” the clergyman added.

He said: “You should start thinking about your temporary existence on earth and doing what will make you inherit heavenly mansions when you die.” He described Pa Abiodun as a great teacher and committed Christian who dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity.

Osinbajo, in his remarks, noted that Pa Abiodun enjoyed the grace of God, stressing that he did not take the grace for granted, but gave back to his community via the teaching profession and service to God.

Governor Abiodun described his late father as his mentor, moral compass and teacher.
