We’ll not allow IPOB disrupt Anambra governorship election — NSA

The federal government has said it will not allow any separatist group to disrupt the forthcoming November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj-Gen. Babagana Monguno (Rtd), stated this on Thursday in Abuja at the third quarterly meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

His warning came against the backdrop of some of the recent activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the southeastern part of the country.

Daily Trust reports that in May this year, hoodlums carried out series of attacks on government facilities, including setting ablaze the headquarters of INEC in Anambra State.

While the police accused members of IPOB of responsibility for the attacks, the group denied responsibility.

Monguno, represented by Sanusi Galadima, warned that government would not allow any group or persons to disrupt the poll.

Speaking earlier, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the commission had made arrangements to replace materials that were lost during the attack on its office in Akwa.

He said plans were also on to rebuild the facilities before the election.
