Bandits terrorising residents of Zamfara and forcing closure of schools have converted some classrooms to personal use in the North West State.

Daily Trust findings show that dozens of primary schools in highly traumatised remote rural communities had been taken over by armed criminals.

Disrupted education

Bandits and other criminals have displaced thousands of students in parts of the North West and North Central and also disrupted the academic calendar of schools, Daily Trust reports.

Findings revealed that the bandits who have killed hundreds of people and dislodged an unspecified number of communities have forced many schools to close and thousands of students to remain at home for months, heightening fears of increased out-of-school children.

Telecom freeze working against bandits?

For some days now, telecommunication lines have been down in Zamfara State  based on a government order as a way to curb banditry.

9 months, no commissioners

Nine months after he was sworn in for a second term, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State is yet to appoint commissioners, a development that is generating mixed reactions in the state.

He was sworn in for a second term on November 12, 2020, but nine months after, he is yet to appoint commissioners and other aides.

1.2m more doses of J&J
The Federal Government has received additional  1,233,200 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for COVID-19 vaccination in the country.Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, told reporters in Abuja that the latest shipments were received late last Saturday through the AVATT platform, coordinated by the African Union Commission, as part of the 39,800,000 doses procured by the government.

BBNaija was just for fun, says Tega

Tega, an evicted housemate of Big Brother Naija Show, says she went into the house to have fun. She said this in an interview with Classic FM on Tuesday.

Tega, a married woman, has been under fire since she got evicted from the show on Sunday. Her romantic relationship with Boma, also a housemate, had triggered a backlash.“I went there to explore. I had tried going into the house for like four years without any luck but this time around, I finally made it in. I really wanted to have fun and enjoy the house.”

Depleted Super Eagles beat Blue Sharks

Troops clamp down on bandits in Zamfara lockdown

Last week, the federal government came up with yet another scheme to improve the lives of the teeming unemployed youths in the country. This time, it is a job fellowship programme for 20,000 post-National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) graduates annually.

The initiative, called Nigeria Jubilee Fellow Programme (NJFP) which will be implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), seeks to link up talented graduates with job opportunities that utilize their expertise while training them to acquire practical knowledge and relevant skills through mentorship in various industries around the country. In this editorial, Daily Trust says the programme must be well implemented.
