Immediate past governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, has dispelled the rumoured rift with his successor, Senator Douye Diri, saying he maintained a distance from the governor to allow him concentrate and deliver his promises to the people of the state.
Speaking Saturday during the grand reception in honour of some leaders of the state by Bayelsa West Senatorial District Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus, Senator Dickson disclosed that why he maintained a distance from the incumbent administration was to give him “respectable space to operate.”

Dickson, who is the current Senator representing Bayelsa West senatorial district at the National Assembly, stressed that he was constantly in touch with Diri, especially on issues bordering on the development of the state.
He recalled how the PDP emerged victorious in the last governorship election and expressed optimism that the party would continue to win future elections in the state.
He charged PDP members in the state to shun all forms of division and support the current administration, stressing that the party can only be strong when it is united.
Also speaking during the grand reception, Governor Douye Diri, said the PDP remains the party of choice for Bayelsans and would be difficult to beat in any election in the state.
He noted that the party was firmly rooted in the state and had embarked on projects that have endeared it to the people.
The governor urged the people of Bayelsa West to close ranks in order to consolidate on the party’s achievements.
