Plateau Killings: Gov Lalong visits Yelwa Zangam

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, on Sunday, visited the recent troubled area of the state following the resurgence of violence leading to the killings of many and destruction of property.

The Governor visited Yelwa Zangam Community in Jos North Local Government Area where over 30 people were killed last week despite the curfew put in place.

Lalong met with some of the victims of the attack and they recounted their ordeal, urging the governor to urgently address the food crisis in the community as their grains and farmlands were equally destroyed during the attack.

Part of the community’s request was the building of a police station to assist in responding to distress calls.

While expressing his condolences to the Anaguta nation over the attack, Lalong urged the people to remain calm and avoid counterproductive acts, saying some people were already using the killings in the community to score political points.

Governor Lalong said the federal and state governments would mobilize relief materials to be distributed from Monday, adding that there would be more federal deployments of security personnel.

The governor’s visit came after the House of Assembly members visited victims of attacks in some parts of the state a few days after the attacks.

They also gave the governor a two-week ultimatum to implement the resolution on security and peace in the state which the house recently forwarded to him.
