Police brutality victims petition Osinbajo

Some victims of police brutality in Taraba have sent a petition to the National Economic Council (NEC) and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over alleged non-payment of compensation to them.

According to a copy of the petition made available to Daily Trust, the victims expressed dismay that several months after their petitions were attended to by the panel set up to hear complaints of police and other security agents brutality, they have not been paid any compensation.

NALDA opens hatchery with 30,000 birds in Yobe

The National Agricultural Land Development Authority has said a total of 30,000 birds have been supplied to its poultry farm estate in Dasamu Village, Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The farm is expected to produce hatchable eggs that will not only serve the state but other intended farmers in neighbouring states.

Inspection of car assembly plants sparks fear of closures

There are mixed feelings in the automotive sector over the impending inspection of the automobile manufacturing and assembly plants by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Daily Trust can report.

There are fears that the majority of the assembly plants may be delisted over suspicion that “they are not doing what they claim to be doing.” Our correspondent reports that the inspection exercise of the automobile manufacturing and assembly plants currently operating in Nigeria was to have started on Monday.

Lawyers give IGP 14 days to release Gloria Okolie

The chairman, Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law, NBA-SPIDEL, Dr Monday Ubani, has handed down a 14-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to either charge Gloria Okolie to court or grant her unconditional release.

Okolie is a female student arrested and detained by the police while on her way to write her JAMB examinations.
