A fact-checking society was launched in Lagos State University after a one-day fact-checking training facilitated by Dubawa fellows for student journalists.
A renowned Professor of Mass Communication, Lai Oso educated participants on the effect of misinformation, disinformation and malinformation in the society, while stressing the roles of the youths in curbing fake news.
The former Dean of LASU School of Communication urged the students not to share unverified information.

Lateef Sanni, a Dubawa fellow, spoke extensively on how to fact-check, tools used, procedures, and styles of writing fact-checking stories.
Sultan Quadri spoke on the opportunities in fact-checking for beginners, his experience as a fact-checker, and how he won the grant which led to the founding of a student-led fact-checking outlet, People’s Check.
Oluwaseye Ogunsanya, the first runner-up of the African checks Award 2020, student category, also shared his experience with participants
The convener, Dr. Ganiyat Tijani Adenle, a lecturer with LASU and a fellow of Dubawa on fact-checking, who spoke on the importances of fact-checking, proposed the launch of the fact-checking society, which was unanimously accepted by the students.
