Some former students of the National Teachers Institute (NTI), Kwara State Centre, have appealed to the federal government to prevail on the institute over the continuous delay of their results.
Speaking at a press conference in Ilorin, the spokesperson for the 2017, 2018 and 2019 sets, Mr Ahmed Abdulwahab lamented the institute’s failure to release their results.
He explained that their career in their respective workplaces had been jeopardized.
Mr AbdulRahman added that despite completing the required payment, including school fees, efforts to get their notification of result or certificates has proved abortive.
Mr Ahmed, who claimed they had finished the programme since 2017, wondered why their results had not been released till now.
He said many of them registered for the programme to get promoted among other benefits in their workplaces.
According to him, “We made several attempts through a letter of appeal to NTI National Coordinator and even engaged the Centre Coordinator in Kwara including the then Desk Officer to ensure that our results are released without no further delay but all these efforts prove abortive.”
The students expressed sadness over the delay in getting their results several years after completion of their programmes, explaining that many of them had lost opportunities because of failure to tender the results when the need arise.
According to him, “Students, who participated in the programme in 2017, 2018 and 2019, have not collected their results up till now, and the NTI management has been playing pranks with us without disclosing the problems.
“Among other disciplines, it is only the Social Studies and Physical Education Students that are yet to get our results and certificates. But the NTI keeps admitting more students for the programme when it has not released the results and certificates of three consecutive sets”.
They appealed to the authorities of NTI to look into the issue and find means of ensuring urgent release of their results.
But reacting to the issue, the NTI Kwara coordinator, Adedokun Tinuade sought patience, adding that the problem is being resolved.
The issue is a national one and not limited to Kwara which is about affiliation.
“Initially, we were affiliated to the University of Maiduguri and when it came to the time of issuing certificates, they stopped the affiliation thing. That has been the problem.”
“But the University of Ibadan has taking it over and we are now affiliated to them. So it’s an affiliation problem and we are resolving it”, Tinuade added.
Also, the NTI PRO, Yushua Ahmed, who spoke with our correspondent on phone from Kaduna, said “very soon, their results will be released”.
