2023: Ladoja meets Bankole in Ogun, says zoning ‘mere party affair’

Former Governor of Oyo state, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, on Sunday held a closed-door meeting with the father of former speaker, House of Representatives, Chief Alani Bankole at his Abeokuta residence in Ogun State capital.

The meeting which lasted for four hours came six days after the chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning, Mai Mala Buni and two other governors met with some leaders in the South West, including Ladoja and Bankole .

It was gathered that the meeting between Ladoja and Bankole might not be unconnected with the 2023 election.

Ladoja told journalists the meeting was his usual visit to his brother.

The former Oyo Governor said he and Bankole had left partisan politics for the youths in the country.

He charged the youths in the country to be politically active in the coming election.

Speaking on zoning , Ladoja described it as the arrangement of political parties to win elections, adding that zone in the country has competent people to lead the country.

He urged the youths to take the bull by the horn and present themselves for leadership responsibility in the coming election.

He said “I came to visit my brother. It was a usual visit. I have quit partisan politics and my brother (Bankole ) had left partisan politics.

“One needs to quit when the ovation is loudest for the young ones. I will advise the youths to present themselves for the leadership positions.

“It is a stupid thought that Nigerian politics has been monetised. What do they spend on posters, vote buying and parties agents? If the youths support their candidates, who will collect money from them?

“I told the teachers in Oyo state to present some of them for political positions They can sponsor them with what they have.”

Ladoja, however, declined assessing the state of the nation, saying, he was no more a politician.

Bankole also declined comment on the the reasons for the closed-door meeting with Ladoja .

But a source privy to the meeting hinted that it was a follow up to the earlier meetings with Buni and other governors.
