2023: Kogi West elders demand governorship seat

The Kogi West Elders’ Forum (KWEF), a socio-cultural group comprising of leading personalities and opinion leaders from Kogi West Senatorial District has urged political parties to consider fielding their governorship candidates from the district in 2023 in the interest of fairness and balance.

The forum also said Kogi West Senatorial District would not accept deputy governorship position from political parties in the 2023 elections.

The forum’s position was contained in a communiqué issued Thursday by the chairman, retired Gen. David Jemibewon, at the end of a meeting in Abuja.

Spokesman of the forum and a former managing director of Media Trust Ltd, Alhaji Isiaq Ajibola read the communiqué.

He said the forum held the meeting to address the “prevailing political imbalance” and “skewed political power play” amongst the three senatorial districts in the state which has denied the people of Kogi West the opportunity to produce a governor since the creation of the state in 1991.

The forum appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello and all political actors in the state to take conscious note of the demand and support every arrangement that will ensure the actualization of the aspiration.

“The forum wishes to remind his excellency of our unalloyed support during the last election when we made a public statement that endorsed his re-election based on our insight that he was a democrat, courageous and would honour our modest agitation for power rotation in the state,” it said.

Ajibola said the forum was in consultations with leaders and critical stakeholders from the other senatorial districts in the state to get their support towards actualising the aspiration of the district.
