Travellers’ killing: IGP deploys surveillance helicopter in Plateau

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, on Monday, ordered that a surveillance helicopter be deployed to Plateau State following the killings of some travellers in the State.

Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, disclosed this to journalists at the headquarters of defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Abuja shortly after parading 39 suspects arrested across the country by the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT).  Mba said the order was to restore permanent normalcy to the troubled state, adding that investigations on the suspects arrested in connection with the killings are ongoing. According to him, the surveillance helicopter, manned by operatives of Nigeria Police Airwing, is expected to carry out aerial surveillance and confidence-boosting patrols within the hotspots, in coordinated operations with the ground troops.

“We believe that with our boots on the ground and our airwing in the air, we will be able to provide sufficient confidence for the people of Jos. We will also be able to cover the entire field and entire ground.

“Yes, we had earlier told you that scores of suspects have been arrested, these suspects are already been profiled. Special investigators have also been moved from Abuja to join their counterparts in the Plateau State Police command. So, investigations are ongoing and we will keep Nigerians posted as we make progress with these investigations.”
