The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), on Tuesday, impounded 38 motorcycles for disobeying traffic rules within the city.
Briefing Daily Trust on the operation, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of DRTS, Mr Kalu Emetu, explained that the confiscation of the motorcycles was meant to deter others from engaging in such acts.

He said the culprits were endangering the lives of other road users, despite several warnings by the government.
He said dispatch riders were also not spared because many were found riding against traffic.
“What the dispatch riders have is temporary waivers, but that does not mean that they should misbehave. The waivers they were given include that they must obey traffic regulations, but today you see some of them beat traffic lights. Anyone of them you see here has in one way or the other broken the law,” he explained.
Emetu said the agency would continue the clampdown on recalcitrant motorcyclists disobeying traffic rules.
“In FCT, we have a planned city. Everything is guided by law. When people feel that they will not obey the law, we will make them obey it. There is no society that does not have laws.
“On our part, we will continue to perform our job; it is a mandate given to us by the founding fathers of FCT. A situation where people will feel they will not obey the law, that is unacceptable,” he added.
