The Lagos State government has engaged members of Ito-Omu communities in the preparation of the land use plan for the community and its environs.
The government had earlier disclosed its plan to open up new towns in Ito-Omu, Ibeju-Lekki area and adjoining communities to bring development to the people of the area.

Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. (Dr.) Idris Salako, said the state government, as part of its strategies to decongest the metropolis, was ready to bring development to Ito-Omu and its environs.
He explained that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu wanted different infrastructural projects such as roads, drainage, schools and other social amenities to be sited in the area to further upscale the infrastructural deficit in the state.
He also disclosed the plan of the government to build a jetty to enhance transportation for members of the communities.
The infrastructural development in the rural communities, he said, would bring more investment that would create employment for the teeming youths and assured members of the communities that government would take care of their interests while the projects were being implemented.
The General Manager, New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), Tpl. Olakunle Aboyeji, explained that the proposed planned area comprised 21 villages, delineated by Omu Creek to the southern and western boundaries on the northern part by Lagos Lagoon and the eastern side by other rural communities.
It stretches from Arapagi to Ito-Omu, covering about 6299.9 hectares, with an estimated population of over 6,000 people.
