Disturbed by the resurgence of cult-related activities and clashes in Bayelsa State, the police in the state have inaugurated a special squad, called ‘Anti-Cultism Squad’ to forestall further disturbances.
According to the spokesman of the command, Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of Police, 32 suspected cultists have been arrested over their involvement in the unrest in Yenagoa, the state capital, recently.

Daily Trust gathered that in most streets in Yenagoa, residents go to bed as early as 7 pm for fear of being attacked by cultists who have turned the streets to battlefields.
He said that the special squad is to confront cultists and violent criminals in the state and ensure that residents go about their legitimate businesses unmolested.
