Ban on street hawking: Food vendors lament losses

Food sellers at the popular Spare-In-Deo shopping plaza in Abakaliki metropolis of Ebonyi State were in tears yesterday over the destruction of their goods and other properties.

The Commissioner for Capital City Development, Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi, led officials who carried out the exercise to enforce the ban on street hawking in the state capital.

Onyiyinchi Igwe, who prepares Indomie, Christian Anyigua and another, Chinasa Chika, who sells rice were among those badly affected.

The State House of  Assembly recently summoned the commissioner over the demolition of houses in the state.
