In continuation of its endowment and outreach programme to the less privileged, the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Kwara State chapter has distributed items and cash worth over N3 million to over 50 less privileged in the state.

Items distributed include motorcycle, freezer, industrial/sewing/washing machines and car among others.

Other beneficiaries also received cash ranging from N50,000 to N100,000.

Speaking at the event, the Kwara State Coordinator for Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Dr Muhammad Thanni Muhammad Muktar, said the empowerment programme was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the downtrodden.

He said the foundation, established in 2001 as a non-governmental organization, was to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.

“You can see from what happened here today. We got the money from the rich and disbursed to the poor in cash and materials amounting to over N3 million.

He said the gesture was in line with the dictates of Islam, urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the gesture so as to liberate themselves from poverty and take good care of their families.

He explained that Zakat and Sadakat Foundation was established out of the concern to revive the most neglected pillar of Islam and committed to improving the welfare of the less privileged.

In his remark, the CEO and Executive Director Z&S, Prince Suleiman Olagunju who was represented by Director Zakat, Sadaqot and Waqfu Foundation, Alhaji Maruf Ahmad, said the main object of the foundation is to return Zakat to its rightful position among Muslims and ensure even distribution of wealth to empower the masses.

In his lecture, Dr Yahaya Muritador from Kwara State University, Malete, described Sakat as veritable platform not only for purification of wealth but also for redistribution of resources.

Some of the beneficiaries, Suleiman Muhammad, Atanda Moridiya Kehinde, Abubakar Adam, Yusuf Mariam Bukola, Soliu Kareem Robiat Ibrahim and Muslimat Lawal among others promised to make judicious use of the gesture and prayed God to reward members of the foundation and their donors abundantly.
