Police raid drugs sales outlets in Lagos, arrest dealers

Detectives at the weekend raided popular illicit drugs sales outlets in Lagos and arrested two dealers.
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, said the operation was to cut off the drugs supply chain to criminals.
Odumosu said there was a strong correlation between drugs abuse and violent crimes and that the only way to stem the rising crime in most parts of the country was to tackle drugs supply outlets.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the two suspected drug dealers were arrested by police operatives of the Area “E” Command, Festac.
Adejobi said detectives from Area E Command, on July 39, 2021, at about 6 am, arrested two drug peddlers at Dantata area, Mile 2, along Badagry Expressway, Lagos State and recovered weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances from them.
He said the police had been intimated of the activities of the drug peddlers who were displaying drugs for sales with impunity around the area, adding that the policemen, as a follow up to the tip-off, raced to the scene where one Rabiu Mohammed was arrested.
He said the suspect confessed that one Sanni Audu was the major dealer/supplier, noting that the police went after Sanni Audu and arrested him with some quantities of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, while reiterating his directive to officers and men of the command to go after criminals and hoodlums in the State, ordered that other members of the syndicate must be apprehended.
“He further directed that the illegal items/illicit substances in the custody of the suspects and in any part of the State must be recovered in order to reduce the quantity of hard/illicit drugs in circulation.
“The police boss equally directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and possible prosecution.
“CP Hakeem Odumosu, therefore, reassured the general public of adequate security of lives and property and sustainable fight against the menace of drug misuse and abuse in Lagos State,” he said.
