The Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) has said over two million kilograms of assorted drugs were seized and over N90 billion worth of drugs and cash recovered between January and May 2021.
He said over 5, 000 people were arrested for various drug offences while more than 500 convictions were secured of the 3, 000 suspects charged to court while 2772 individuals were counselled and treated for drug-related problems.

Marwa who spoke in Ibadan, Oyo state yesterday as chairman at the public presentation of a book: Victory in defeat, written by Brig. Gen. Larinde Laoye (Retd), said the statistics were a red flag about the need to safeguard the future of younger generations.
Marwa in a statement by the agency’s Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi called for a new social order where drug test becomes a norm for couples as part of wedding rites; for students as a continuous process from the beginning to the end of their stay in school and part of the government’s recruitment and employment validation processes.
The NDLEA chairman said his path crossed with many people but memories about the author were especially evergreen because he is an exceptional and unforgettable figure.
Other dignitaries at the event include a former military governor of Lagos state, Brig. Gen. Raji Rasaki (Retd), Chief of Army staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya represented by the GOC 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Gen. G.U Chibuisi, the Olowu of Owuland, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, Timi of Ede, Oba Muniru Adesola Lawal among others.
