The Jaiz Foundation, the charity arm of Jaiz Bank, yesterday disbursed N10m Zakat to 73 beneficiaries in Lagos State.
The foundation’s CEO Imam Abdullah Shuaib, said the disbursements were both cash and items.
He listed the items distributed to the beneficiaries to include: sewing machines, stone engraving machine, deep freezer, generators, and grinding machine.
He said cheques were also disbursed to those who needed money for starting their business, with the highest donation being N1m while the lowest was N50,000.
Speaking at the event, a cleric, Imam Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef, urged Nigerians to reach out to the less privilege in the country.
“Without being charitable, you cannot be a good parent, teacher, business mogul or government representative. If you are not charitable, you won’t be able to discharge your responsibility appropriately. The spirit of giving should be engraved in our hearts,” he advised.
He said, “As a way of encouragement, when you give, Allah will use it to erase your sins. Spend only to seek the pleasure of Allah and your reward is guaranteed. Shaytan (devil) will discourage you by convincing you your money will reduce or finish due to charity, that should not stop you from giving as the givers always receive their rewards in manifold. Do not be stingy.”
