Get vaccinated against cholera, Bauchi gov begs residents

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has appealed to residents, especially communities hit by severe cholera infection, to get vaccinated against the killer disease.

The governor made the appeal during the flag-off of cholera vaccination Wednesday in the state capital, where he personally took a drop of oral vaccine.

He said the federal government has donated 1.5 million doses of the vaccine to the state government and would be administered to 750, 000 people in two doses each.

He added that since the beginning of the outbreak, he had directed that all the victims should be treated free.

He directed the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency to make special funds available to all the volunteers across the state.

The Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr Rilwamu Mohammed, said many people have rejected the vaccines despite the enlightenment campaign on the importance of the vaccination.

Some people even chased away facilitators, he said, appealing to traditional and religious leaders to talk to their subjects on the need to get vaccinated against the disease.
