Nasarawa State Police Command yesterday said it has arrested 32-year-old Nasiru Ahmed, who had been parading himself as a naval officer and defrauding residents.
Speaking to Daily Trust, the command’s spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, said the suspect has been terrorising and deceiving the residents of New Nyanya, Karu Local Government Area of the state, especially Point of Sale (POS) operators.
“Personnel attached to the New Karu Division, while on intensive surveillance patrol, apprehended one Nasiru Ahmed, a 32 years-old man who is an impostor, notorious criminal and serial fraudster.
“The suspect usually dressed in full military camouflage uniform of the Nigeria Navy, then he approaches Point of Sale (P.O.S) operators at different locations within Karu LGA, Nasarawa State under the guise of conducting transactions,” he said.
He said items recovered from the suspect after searching his house were two sets of navy uniforms, two sets of boots, one set of knee guard and one dagger.
“He sends fake bank alerts to the mobile phones of the POS operators and collects cash from them. He intimidates them whenever they complain about receiving fake bank alerts from him.
“The Commissioner of Police, AIG Bola Longe has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lafia for further investigation”, he added
