Police arrest man over impersonation of varsity VC

Nasarawa State Police Command said it has arrested a suspect who impersonated the Vice-Chancellor and Acting Registrar of the Federal University Lafia.

The Commissioner of Police said Terver Upaa-Yaji, 39, was arrested on June 6, 2021, through police personnel attached to State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in an intelligence-led operation.

The suspect was said to have been defrauding his victims of undisclosed amounts of money under the pretence of being the vice-chancellor.

The commissioner explained that upon diligent search, one complimentary card bearing Terver Upaa-Yaji Esq, LL. B, LL.M and PhD were found on him.

Speaking to Daily Trust shortly after he was paraded, the suspect said he has never been to law school, adding that he was a school dropout.

Meanwhile, the police commissioner said the force has arrested 61 persons for allegedly committing various offences ranging from kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and vandalism across the state.
