Group express worry over insecurity in Niger Delta

A  German group, KONRAD Adenauer Stiftung, KAS, has expressed regrets over the escalating insecurity in the country, especially in the Niger Delta region.

KAS particularly expressed worries that there was lack of understanding and trust among the security agencies in the country, seeking to cement collaboration among security formations in the country for effective security.

The body disclosed this at a workshop on Promoting Interagency Collaboration and Conflict Resolution for Personnel of Security Agencies in Nigeria, organised with support from Federal Republic of Germany Foreign Office, Civil Defence and House on Committee on Army in Port Harcourt.

Speaking, the Deputy Resident Representative, KAS, Marija Peran, said the essence of the training for all the security agencies in the country was not only to building Interagency Collaboration, but also to instill trust and good communication among security formations.

Peran also noted that the target of the training was to make the nation safe and habitable especially the Niger Delta region , adding that there was need for the security agencies to work closely to foster effective conflict management.

The head, Peace and Conflict Departmentof NSCDC, Abuja, Commandant David Ojelabi, who is also the Coordinator of the programme, noted that the workshop was organised for security agencies in South-South.

Ojelabi said: “It is an Interagency programme for security agencies from the South-South zone. We have impacted on the participants on how to win the minds of Nigerians by working closely and together as forces of the federal republic.

“There should not be misunderstanding or rivalry among the security agencies, but we work together and plan together as one and achieve together to build a secured nation.”
