Plateau farm destruction: Lalong orders arrest of perpetrators

Plateau State governor, Simon Bako Lalong, has urged the security agencies to fish out the criminals who destroyed farm crops in some communities in the state.

Daily Trust reports that farm crops were on Tuesday destroyed in Kpachudu, Jebbu Miango communities in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Lalong, while reacting to the incident, said it was unimaginable that people would go into a farm and mow down flourishing crops that were nearing maturity and expected to be harvested in the coming weeks and months.

He assured that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

Lalong said, “From the reports, this is a carefully planned and executed act that is not only meant to provoke crisis, suspicion and instability in the area, but also render the victims poor and hungry. What these criminals fail to understand is that such actions will eventually leave the entire state and the country with food shortages where even the perpetrators will not escape.”

The governor, therefore, directed the security agencies to immediately swing into action by conducting a thorough investigation into this incident with a view to arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators.

He also directed the Plateau Peace Building Agency to visit the affected areas, ascertain the level of damage and foster dialogue within the communities to avoid crisis.
