A Non-Governmental Organisation, Day-to-Day Empowerment Initiative, has launched a campaign tagged, “Get Skilled Programme”, to motivate youths to acquire vocational skills.
In a press briefing, the Coordinator of the initiative, Nkoro Gabriel, urged young Nigerians to learn vocational skills and hand works that were economically viable.

He said the essence of the campaign was to contribute to cushioning Nigeria’s security challenges, as according to him, it has become obvious that a large number of idle youths in Nigeria was susceptible to social vices.
Mr Gabriel said, “So we’re using today, being the World Youth Skills Day, to encourage young people rather than sitting idle and waiting for manna to fall from heaven or waiting for the government to empower everybody. Look around you and go out there and learn a skill.”
According to him, the initiative is opening a portal, www.dtdei.com, from August 1, 2021, through which potential apprentices will visit the site and fill a form either as skilled business owners or apprentices.
He further explained that the Get Skilled Programme was supported by the Association of Vocational Artisans of Nigeria (ASVAN) and the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
The campaign was conducted through a motivational walk which started at Greenview Garden, Gudu, Abuja, to various locations in the city.
