Eid-el-Kabir: Sokoto gov’t gives N21.7m to 5,500 orphans

The Sokoto State Government has distributed the sum of N21.7 million to 87 districts for the purchase of sacrificial cows for orphans.

Each of the districts was given N200,000 for the cow and N20,000 for its transportation.

While flagging off the exercise, Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar Said, thanked the state government for sustaining the gesture despite its dwindling resources.

According to him, this would give the orphans a sense of belonging.

He urged the district heads to ensure fairness and justice in discharging this responsibility.

“Therefore, I urged all of you to avoid or even attempt to use the money for your personal activities. If you do not add to it you should not reduce it,” he warned.

Earlier, Malam Muhammad Maidoki, the Chairman of Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission, commended the district heads for their commitment to the exercise.
