Court jails 3 for cybercrime

A federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Friday convicted three people for cybercrime otherwise known as ‘yahoo-yahoo.’

They were dragged before Justice Mohammed Sanni of the Federal High by the Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The convicts include Ojo David Oluwatosin, 27; Oreoluwa Ayub, 17 and Adetoyi Sodiq, 25, all charged on one count each.

The trio were arrested in Ado-Ekiti and arraigned on separate counts on July 16, 2021. They pleaded guilty to their charges.

But upon conviction on Friday, they were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment each to serve as a deterrent to others.

Following their guilty pleas, the facts of the cases were reviewed with counsel to the EFCC, Andrew Akoja, leading prosecution witnesses who are operatives of the Commission in evidence.

Incriminating documents including confessional statements of each suspect were tendered and admitted in evidence by the court.
