NIMASA donates relief materials to Kebbi boat mishap, flood victims

Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency (NIMASA) has donated relief materials to Kebbi State government for distribution to flood and boat mishap victims.

The Deputy Director, Port Harcourt office of the agency, Murad Carpenter, made this known on Thursday while handing over the relief materials that include, tricycles, sewing machines and water pumping machines among others to the state government in Birnin Kebbi.

He added that the responsibility for catering for the victims of natural disaster should not be left only for the government hence, the decision for NIMASA to intervene adding that the donation was not meant to compensate what the victims lost to natural disasters but only to bring succor.

“NIMASA is handing over … two tricycles, four motorcycles, 12 sewing machines, 12 grinding machines, 12 vulcanizing machines, four water pumping machines and 50 sets of barbing clippers.

At least 140 people were feared dead in a boat accident in Ngaski local government area of Kebbi State on Wednesday.

There were 162 people in the boat which was heading to Warra town in Kebbi State from Niger State when it sank into the River Niger at about 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

“The donation of the relief materials is meant to be distributed to the victims of flood and boat mishap as well as other natural calamities in Kebbi State. The gesture is part of the Cooperate Social Responsibility of NIMASA.”

The Kebbi State Secretary to the State Government, Babale Umar, who received the donation on behalf of the state government, assured the agency that the items would reach the right people the donation was meant for.
