Displaced persons live in miserable conditions, says Gov Zulum

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Sunday, said Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), are in miserable living conditions due to the increasing incidences of crimes and other social vices.

The governor said this at the Gubio displaced persons’ camp.

The governor was at the camp to supervise the profiling of IDPs for return to five local government areas (LGAs).

The IDPs are mostly from Kukawa, Marte, Bama, Gwoza and Ngala LGAs.

Many of them have been in camp for over seven years.

He said those willing to return to their communities would be relocated soon, adding that those from the communities where peace is attained will go back to their ancestral homes.

Others would be resettled in secured places where they can have means of livelihood to stand on their own, Zulum said.

The governor also returned to Dalwa, a farming community along Damboa – Maiduguri highway after two weeks, where he personally took turns to harrow his own farm, which he pledged to visit from time to time.
