Abolish or not abolish: Young Nigerians speak about costly marriage rites (I)

Across many societies in Nigeria, young people (both men and women) have been talking about marriage with trepidation – especially when it comes to the amount spent in observing certain rites.
In Igbo land, the complaint centers mostly around “The List”, which is a run down of items the prospective groom is expected to buy for the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, and other kinsmen of the prospective bride.
Some  allege that “The List”, which they say is “Outrageous, unfair, and unnecessary”, contains items like the bike bought for the prospective bride when she was a girl and even the diapers she wore as a baby.
