Edo tipper drivers threaten strike over land tussle with chief priest

The Association of Tipper Drivers in Edo state has threatened to withdraw their services in seven days if the chief priest of Okhuoromi community in Oredo council area, Ovbokhan Igbinovia, does not return landed property purchased by its members and other individuals.

The association’s chairman, Austin Uhunmwangho, urged the state government, the Oba of Benin and concerned authorities to prevail on Ovbokhan to return landed properties bought by members and other individuals to them.

According to him, the chief Priest collected their land and destroyed buildings under construction that have reached roofing level.

“What we want is our land, our members’ land and that of other victims must be returned back to them.”

He said they have gotten over 50 petitions with evidence of houses that have been demolished and called on the state government and the palace to intervene.

“The action of the community chief priest is worse than that of the disbanded Community Development Association, whose activities was holding development in the kingdom back,” he said.

The Ohen (Chief Priest) Ovbokhan, said the association’s chairman and his members did not buy any landed property from his community.

He accused the association’s chairman of delving into an issue he was never invited into with a view to satisfying his mistress.
