NEDC, stakeholders move to harmonise humanitarian response in N/East

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) says it has taken deliberate steps to respond to threats of food and nutrition insecurity ravaging the region as a result of prolonged Boko Haram insurgency.

The Managing Director of the commission, Mohammed Alkali, made this known during a roundtable meeting with stakeholders on the humanitarian situation in the North East at the weekend.

Alkali said the commission is currently mobilising resources to stockpile food items with a view to intervening in an event of emergency.

He urged the stakeholders to streamline various humanitarian interventions in the region for maximum result.

The NEDC Executive Director, Humanitarian, Malam Musa Yashi, said the meeting was initiated to discuss ways of streamlining the operations of all humanitarian activities in the region.

In their various contributions, representatives of State Emergency Management Agencies from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States and other partners all stressed the need for coordination meetings.
