Mainstream museum studies in school curriculum – Emir of Keffi

The Emir of Keffi, Nasarawa State, Dr Shehu-Usman Yamusa, has called on the federal and state governments to mainstream museum and heritage studies in the school curriculum to boost students’ interest.

Yamusa made the call at the commemoration of the 2021 International Museum Day and award presentation to cultural ambassadors and the launch of a book in Abuja.

The title for the 2021 Museum Day was, “The Future of Museums: Recover and Re-imagine.

Yamusa also urged the government to make schools to visit museums once in every session in order to benefit from the pleasures offered by the sector.

“Schools should be made to visit museums at least once every session to benefit from the pleasures they offer,’’ Yamusa said.

Also speaking, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, lauded the German government and its museums for taking the forefront of repatriating Nigeria’s antiquities.

The minister, who was represented by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information and Culture, Mrs Nfeoma Adora, added that they had started taking steps in this direction. (NAN)
