Akwa Utd hold firm to top position with 2-1 victory over Adamawa Utd

Akwa United have again shown their intent to win their first ever Nigeria Professional Football League title after condemning relegation threatened Adamawa United to its 17th league loss Saturday.

The game played at the Nest of Champions, Uyo began in a frenzy as the two-time Federation Cup winners sought to have firm grip on the top spot on the log table.

In the 26th minute, the Promise Keepers got the first goal of the game through Charles Atshimene following an assist from Ikechukwu Nwani.

As the game wore on and with the visitors looking helpless, the home side doubled their lead just before the first half through the CAF Champions League 2016 top scorer, Mfon Udoh to end the game 2-0.

Following this victory, Akwa United have garnered 53 points from 28 games while Adamawa United remain rooted at the base of the table with 19 points from 28 games also.

Meanwhile, action continues today when Dakkada FC will battle Enugu Rangers while Rivers United will play host to Katsina United.
