Kwara police arraign 27 crime suspects

At least 27 criminal suspects were Tuesday arraigned at the Magistrate Court by the Kwara State Police Command in Ilorin, the state capital.

The resumption of activities is coming after two months of industrial action embarked upon to press for the financial autonomy by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

Checks by Daily Trust revealed that the suspects were brought to court on various offences ranging from cultism, armed robbery, rape, breach of trust, fraud, theft and reckless driving among other crimes committed at different locations in Kwara in the last three months.

According to the 18 Police First Information Reports (FIR) sighted by our reporter, the suspects were arraigned before different magistrates for the offences they were charged.

In sharp contrast to the lull of activities as a result of the now suspended strike, the courts were filled to capacity.

Also, the court premises was a beehive of activities as many judicial staff and practitioners were seen trying to sort out one issue or the other.

Some of them who spoke on the development expressed optimism that the resumption will be a win-win situation for all parties involved.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Comptroller of Correctional Services, Mr. Baba Aliu Usman, said the service was determined to ensure a decongestion of police cells now that the court has fully resumed.
