Akwa United have displaced Kano Pillars from the top of the NPFL table following a convincing 3-1 victory over Heartland in the week 26 match played in Uyo.
The Nest of Champions erupted when Charles Atshimene opened the scoring for Akwa United in the 3rd minute to give the host an early lead.

In the 24th minute, Charles scored his second goal of the game. However, a minute later, Heartland’s Akuneto Chijioke reduced the deficit as the first half ended 2-1.
In the 73rd minute, John Ubong Friday sealed all three points as Akwa United secured its 13th league win of the season to storm back to the top of the table with 49 points.
In the other match played earlier in the day, MFM FC failed to defeat visiting Abia Warriors as the game ended 0-0 at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.
The Olukoya Boys are 10th on the log with 36 points while Abia Warriors are 13th with 32 points.
Meanwhile, hostilities continue on Sunday as relegation threatened Adamawa United welcome high flying Rivers United while Sunshine Stars take a trip to Enugu.
Abia Warriors will seek to return to winning ways when they host Lobi Stars as Heartland hope to dim Jigawa Golden Stars.
Second placed Kano Pillars will play host to Akwa United while Enyimba will visit strugglers Katsina United.
MFM FC will travel down to Ilorin to battle title contenders Kwara United who suffered a 1-2 defeat at FC IfeanyiUbah, Nasarawa United will welcome neighbours, Plateau United in a ‘north-central derby’ in Lafia just as Warri Wolves entertain Dakkada in Ozoro.
