Foundation offers free eye surgery to 4,000 patients

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid Centre has partnered Albasar International Foundation (Makkah Specialist Eye Hospital Kano) to sponsor free eye surgery to 4000 people in Kano and Bauchi states.

Out of the 4,000 patients, 2,800 are from Kano while the remaining are in Bauchi State.

Speaking to newsmen during the programme in Kano, the MD Regional Director of the foundation, Dr. Moheildin Abdalla Elbadawi, said the intervention was to help curtail the effect of blindness among poor people who cannot afford to pay for surgery.

One of the beneficiaries, Idris Haruna, 35, from Garko Local Government Area, who had been with blindness for six years said “They came to our village some days ago and screened us. I never thought it was true but I have seen it now,” he said.

Hauwa Ibrahim, 55, from Zarewa said her eye was injured and could not be treated for many years due to lack of money, adding that without the foundation’s support, she probably would have lived the rest of her life as a blind woman.
