62 rescued from kidnappers’ den in Taraba

Sixty-two persons have been rescued from kidnappers’ den in a forest located at the border area between Taraba and Benue states.

The rescued persons, from Wukari and Takum towns in Taraba, were abducted by unidentified gunmen suspected to be Gana boys several months ago.

A resident of Takum, Malam Maiwada, told Daily Trust that the victims were rescued by a vigilante group that combed the forest in search of abducted persons.

He said some of the abducted persons rescued included seven passengers traveling in a Sharon bus who were abducted along with the bus a month ago at Kofai Amdau along Wukari- Takum road.

He added that most of the rescued persons were abducted along Wukari-Takum, Takum-Katsina Ala and Takum- Kashinbila roads.

He said two buses and a Sharon bus whose passengers were abducted and the vehicles taken away by the gunmen were not recovered.

Another source in Wukari, Idi Ruwaya, told Daily Trust that some of the victims who had been in captivity for over six months had paid ransom to their abductors.

According to him, some of the victims who are from Wukari have returned and reunited with their families.

When contacted, the police spokesman in Taraba Command, DSP David Misal told Daily Trust that he was yet to receive the report of the rescued 62 persons.
