Katsina emirate appoints new district head of Kankara

Following the dismissal of the former District Head of Kankara, Alhaji Yusuf Lawal, over alleged ties with bandits, Katsina Emirate Council has approved the appointment of retired Justice Adamu Bello as the new district head.

In a letter of appointment signed by the Emir of Katsina, Alh. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, the appointment was sequel to the approval of the Katsina State Government as contained in a letter sent to the emirate with reference number S/SGKT/77/S.2/VOL.II/207 dated 24th May 2021.

Recall that the emirate council had announced the dismissal of Sarkin Pauwan Katsina, District Head of Kankara, Alh. Yusuf Lawal over alleged ties with bandits.

The Secretary to the Emirate Council, Sarkin Yakin Katsina, Alh. Bello Mamman-Ifo, told newsmen that the district head was found guilty of all the charges leveled against him.

The emirate official spokesman, Sarkin Labarai, Alh. Ibrahim Bindawa, also confirmed that the Emir of Katsina ordered the sacking of the district head after receiving a committee report.

Daily Trust reported that on Friday, April 30, 2021, Katsina emirate council suspended the district head for aiding and abating problems of insecurity and set up a committee chaired by the Kauran Katsina, district head of Rimi, to investigate the issues.

Daily Trust also gathered that a committee after meeting with security agents and other stakeholders especially from Kankara district found Alh. Yusuf Lawal guilty of aiding and siding with bandits and kidnappers operating in his domain.

He was also found guilty of frustrating efforts to tackle banditry in the state.
