Plane crash: General Attahiru was a thoroughbred officer — Sen Makarfi

A former Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has described the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru as a thoroughbred officer and gentleman who took off with a lot of promises as the head of the Nigerian Army to reposition it to more effectively confront the nation’s current challenges.

General Attahiru and 10 others had perished in a plane crash while attempting to land at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday evening. They have since been buried in Abuja on Saturday.

However, while condoling President Muhammadu Buhari, families of the deceased and Nigerians over the loss, Sen. Makarfi in a statement said news of the death of the COAS and his entourage had come to him as a shock but said as people of faith: “We don’t question the will of God; we submit to it.”

He said the greatest honour his colleagues can do him and others who died in the accident is to be more dedicated to the cause that they died for to ensure that they did not make the supreme sacrifice in vain.
