The human rights organization says the Defence Headquarters was right to have called on the human rights community to deploy the same energy being used to mount pressure on the government to respect human rights provisions in the country on terrorists to lay down their arms.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, had recently said rights organisations had all it takes to prevail on Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters to drop their weapons and come to the negotiation table.
In a statement Wednesday on behalf of the organisation, the coordinator of Nigerians Against Terrorism, Buba Alhassan, said rights groups should help the troops and deploy every means to restore peace in the country, including indigenous approaches.
“We commend human rights groups for their desire to see to the quick resolution of the security challenges in the country. This should be the concern of every well-meaning citizen. We, however, say that the Human Right Community consists of Nigerians, some directly and indirectly affected by the crisis in some parts of the country”.
