Operatives of the Imo state police command have arrested two persons in possession of AK 47 rifle.
According to SP Orlando Ikeokwu, police spokesman in the state, the suspects are believed to be inmates of the Owerri Custodial Centre, who escaped during the attack on the facility by some gunmen on April 5.

He said acting on a tip-off, operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Nekede/Ihiagwa, stormed a criminal hideout at Eziobodo, Owerri West LGA, and arrested Godwin Danladi, 20 and Bamaiyi D Fada.
Ikeokwu said that at the point of arrest, one AK47 rifle, two magazines, two live ammunition, one Military Camouflage and other items were recovered from them.
According to him, they confessed to be part of the armed robbery gang that has been terrorising Nekede and environs.
He said, “They are strongly believed to be part of the prison inmates that escaped from the Correctional Service on the 5/04/21. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.”
He also disclosed that on the 9/5/21, while on crime prevention and intensive patrol, operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Shell Camp, Owerri, intercepted one Onyema Victor Chimaobi, 20, with a locally made pistol.
He said that the suspect, a native of Umuguma, Owerri West LGA, is a student of Mechanical Engineering, Imo State University,
He said that the suspect confessed to be the owner, stating that he is using it for his personal protection.
